The Land
Our area of production has a variety of microclimates, due to the proximity of the coast and the altitude of up to 700 feet so that to find some vineyards we need to climb.
The climate is typically Mediterranean, quite typical of littoral and coastal Catalonia (mild and warm), but with some contrasts between maximum and minimum temperatures. Not in vain, the average temperature is between 12º and 14.4 ° C, while the average annual sunshine is 2548 hours and the average rain comes in 514 l/m2. The topography of the area protects us from cold winds, but we remain exposed to the mistral and west winds.
The ground floor is deep not being very sandy or too clayey, with a good permeability and retention of rainwater. The soil is poor in organic matter, lime and not very fertile, suitable for the cultivation of a vineyard of good quality.
The geology is varied, with areas composed of Miocene sediments, continental and maritime strength and thickness in some places covered with sediment Quaternary.
Other areas consist of Triassic material, cretàsics and eocènics,
for limestone and other cretàciques very much broken.
This context of cultivation can give us many variaties and differences both in raw material and in the variations of the wine development .
As part of our own philosophy making wines with its own identity, Alsina Sarda grown on farms scattered in different parts of the Penedes, so that each range has the ideal microclimate for extracting the maximum attributes.
